The integrated Piccolo radio link is available in a range of frequency bands so that integrators can pick the radio frequency that best supports their operational environment. The Piccolo avionics and Ground Station radios must be configured with the same radio.
The 900 MHz ISM radio is an unlicensed radio in North America and Australia. Cloud Cap Technology recommends this radio option for North American and Australian customers not requiring DoD licensed bands.
The 2.4 GHz ISM band is unlicensed in North America, EU countries and other international locations.
Discrete frequency, licensed band, options are available in the range of 310 to 390 MHz and 1350 to 1390 MHz. In the US, these bands are controlled by the DoD.
Available Radio Options:
900 MHz Unlicensed ISM
900 MHz Australian Band
2.4 GHz Unlicensed ISM
310-390 MHz Discrete
1350-1390 MHz Discrete

Advanced Software Features
The Piccolo II comes with the Standard Software Feature Set plus Peripherals at no additional charge. The following additional software feature sets can be purchased:
Standard Feature Set plus peripherals support includes all of the traditional Piccolo features and functions that customers have come to expect, and adds new support for servo driven pan-tilt servos, improved GPS/INS performance, and more flexibility in configuring payload ports
Taking advantage of data from an accurate laser altimeter, this software feature allows accurate autolanding and lateral touchdown performance. The small laser altimeter hardware, produced by Latitude Engineering Inc, is sold separately as a Piccolo aircraft accessory.
The DGPS Autoland software option extends the autoland performance beyond that provided with the laser altimeter by using 2cm accuracy DGPS. In addition to precise autolanding and autonomous roll out and taxiing, the DGPS option supports completely autonomous taxi and rolling take-off, and autonomous captures including net recovery.
The software uses Novatel DGPS equipment and associated antennas that are sold separately.
The DGPS Moving Net Recovery software option further extends the DGPS Autoland functionality to add support of moving net recovery, including nets, needed for shipboard and other moving capture applications.
This software also uses Novatel DGPS equipment and associated antennas that are sold separately.
Cloud Cap has a partnership with Guided Systems Technologies (GST) to provide Piccolo autopilot solutions for helicopter and other rotary wing unmanned vehicles. GST, leveraging more then 18 years of experience in guidance and control technology, brings advanced flight control technology that has been proven on a wide variety of unmanned rotary wing vehicles, including single main rotor and coaxial helicopters, tilt rotors, ducted fans, tail sitters and airplanes that can hover on the propeller, as well as hybrid vehicles such as the USAF/AeroVironment Skytote UAV.
With this support and advanced software, Piccolo autopilot products are capable of full-envelope automated helicopter flight operations, including take-off and landing, precision hover, and automated path following along with autopilot assisted manual steering modes. Additionally, GST will provide comprehensive customer support from initial project requirements definition through hardware-in-the-loop rotary wing simulation to flight testing and field support operations.
Piccolo equipment in support of helicopter operations can be purchased from either GST or Cloud Cap, but support services will be provided through GST only.

The Piccolo Developer's Kit
provides the parts needed to operate the
Piccolo in a Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) bench simulation
environment. HIL simulation is a cornerstone of
unmanned aircraft development. Well-designed simulators
allow the aircraft control laws and mission functionality
to be tested without risking hardware in flight
test.
